Critic I am!

    Taxes are definitely a hot topic no one likes to talk about. In the commentary Tax Cut Extensions or not? by Anthony Esparza its exactly about that scary topic of taxes. He did a good job with explaining how taxes being raised or cut would help or hurt someone. The author definitely showed his point of view went it comes to those who make over 250,000. I would say the author's intended audience is that of the working and middle class like most college students are. I think it is great he went into great detail about how taxes effect each class of citizens with examples. Although all of this was in the commentary I didn't understand where he was getting his information from. I'm happy he stated his opinion but there was not enough fluidity throughout the piece. It was almost like a bunch of random thoughts thrown together to make a point. I also would like to know what exactly a tax cut extension is and what is the one in question? Why is a tax extension the best solution? Overall, I believe the logic is there the commentary just needs an extra push!

Freeze!

                President Obama has signed off on a pay freeze for all Federal civilian employees. This includes everyone from the non-military employee’s that work at the Department of Defense, Border Con;trol, and the Veteran Affairrs Personnel. If your not exactly sure what a pay freeze is, President Obama has froze all incentives, bonuses, and raises for the next two years. This freeze is estimated at saving 2 billion dollars in 2011-2012, 28 billion the next 5 years after that, and 60 billion over 10 years. I did not know this but Obama has already frozen the pay of all of his senior officials and has done many more things to try and level out the burden between the government and its citizens. Most of us know now that our nation has a huge deficit topping out just over 1 trillion dollars. The deficit is huge and I’m glad to know that our president is trying to do something to help that affects our government too not just leaving people like me to fit the bill by tax increases. I am aware that something has to be done or we will go into an economic crisis. Do you think Obama is doing the right thing? I do! I support our president in trying to find creative ways to help with the debt crisis. I do hate the fact that these employees may not make much as it is and this pay freeze definitely does not help them out. The debt our nation has effects all of our lives in the ways it has not yet affected Federal civilian employees such as thousands of jobs being cut, and our pay being cut. I like the idea of government also participating instead of turning a cold shoulder. It helps people believe in their government again and makes officials seem more accessible, almost like a humbling quality. We must do more or our wallets and lives will suffer!
